Henry Ford Health Employees and Former ENT Residents Travel to Kenya to Provide Medical Care

On March 16th, a group of Henry Ford Health professionals including Deb Cusmano RN, Barbara Ingram RN, Edna Umoh-Clarke RN, CRNAs Elizabeth Studley, and Terrell Banks, as well as former ENT residents Joanna Kam MD and Zaahir Turfe MD, traveled to Migori, Kenya to provide medical care to those in need.
They, along with other southeast Michigan healthcare professionals, volunteered their time and resources to serve at Kenya Relief's Brase Clinic & Vision Center, a medical facility located in the heart of Migori. Despite the clinic's limited resources, they remained focused on their goal of improving the health and wellbeing of the people they served.
Working tirelessly, the team provided medical care to 469 patients, including diagnosing and treating a variety of illnesses and conditions, as well as providing much-needed preventive care and health education. The surgical
team also performed 87 surgeries, carefully planning and executing each procedure to ensure the best possible outcome for the patient.
Throughout their time in Migori, the group formed close bonds and connections with the staff and patients at the clinic, despite facing many challenges such as language barriers and cultural differences.
Their dedication and selflessness serve as a testament to the power of compassion and human connection. These healthcare professionals from southeast Michigan knew that their impact would continue to be felt long after their departure.
Their work will be remembered for generations to come, as they proved that a little bit of kindness and generosity can go a long way in making the world a better place.
