What inspired you to become a CRNA?
My father sought out a career for me to keep me out of his garage (he was a car enthusiast). I was extraordinarily engaged in biology and chemistry in high school at the time too. I became an RN with an A.A.S. working nights in a med/surg ICU as I went back for my B.S. I took this time to set up a job shadow with Carol a CRNA at my local hospital and absolutely fell in love with caring for a patient at this most sensitive moment in their healthcare journey.
What did you do as an RN before you became a CRNA?
I was a travel nurse from California, Arizona, Massachusetts and Florida. I worked Trauma ICU, Interventional Radiology, and Med/Surg ICU’s
What do you do for fun?
Having the travel nurse gig exposed me to great culture. I fell in love with San Francisco! I enjoyed hiking, touring state parks and national parks. I do enjoy a great white water rafting trip and look for fun adventures wherever I travel. Recently we did an "Ewok village" inspired rope bridges, repelling and zip lining!!!
What words of advice would you give to someone thinking of becoming a CRNA?
Is it really work if you love what you do? Shadow a CRNA to make sure it’s a good fit. It’s hard work and a lifelong commitment to continued education - I don’t regret any of it.
